"Snooze damage"
Contrary to the directives of the shipping company, the first officer of this vessel was alone on watch at night and fell asleep. As a result, a scheduled change of course was missed and the ship was brought to a halt by one of the Greek islands. Considerable damage was done to the hull. Recovery was also complicated by the fact that the vessel first had to be lightened by transfering the load to a sister ship (see Figure 4).
