… Figure 1 shows the hold of a container ship and Figure 2 shows a 40′ flatrack minus its load. As Figure 3 (below) clearly shows, the load has distributed itself throughout the ship’s hold.
Anyone familiar with these pages may think that this catastrophe was caused by faulty load securing. This was not the case here: The structural stability of the flat was impaired by a technical fault. The flat failed with the result that the crate fell into the hold and destroyed the load stowed there.
